the descent
fascism does not arrive with grand announcements. it does not march in with flashing lights and clear declarations. instead, it seeps into the cracks of a nation, policy by policy, law by law, until what was once unthinkable becomes routine. it gains ground through fear and false promises of security. it demands loyalty, not to principles, but to power. it thrives on silence.
the united states is building concentration camps. this is not rhetoric. this is happening. we are preparing for genocide. when a nation creates facilities designed to detain, isolate, and dehumanize people based on identity or circumstance, history has shown again and again where that road leads.
the foundation of democracy is being dismantled. the system of checks and balances, built to prevent the consolidation of power, is being gutted. courts are being stacked. oversight agencies are being defunded or discredited. laws are being rewritten to favor the few at the cost of the many.
we are watching the demonization of those who are not of the majority race. leaders use dehumanizing language to describe entire groups of people. policies are crafted to exclude, restrict, and punish. when a government normalizes the idea that certain people do not belong, it paves the way for their suffering to become acceptable.
free speech is under attack. books are being banned. protests are being criminalized. journalists are being threatened. opinions that challenge those in power are met with consequences. a society that silences its people is a society that is afraid of the truth.
what is patriotism? is it loyalty to a person, or to the ideals that define a nation? is it devotion to a single leader, or to the principles of justice, freedom, and equality? true patriotism does not demand blind allegiance. it demands accountability. it requires people to stand up when the nation betrays its values.
tennessee is making it illegal to vote in favor or against certain immigration policies. the right to vote, the most basic function of democracy, is being restricted, not because of fraud, but because of fear. when leaders are afraid of the will of the people, they change the rules.
the tolerance paradox is not just an idea; it is a warning. if a society tolerates intolerance without resistance, it plants the seeds of its own destruction. when intolerance is allowed to grow unchecked, it does not stop at words. it turns into laws, then policies, then violence.
calls to remove the fbi from federal protection are not about justice or reform. they are about removing the last obstacles to unchecked power. without oversight, corruption thrives. without accountability, crime rises. without protection, opposition disappears.
so what now?
we are at a breaking point. what happens next depends on whether people act before it is too late.
